UTL (United Telecommunications Limited) is one of the telecommunication service providers in Nepal. UTL Nepal is a consortium formed out of 4 companies. Out of this association of companies, 3 major companies are in India and the final local company is in Nepal. In this consortium, the 4 companies i.e. Mahanagar Telecom Nigam Limited (MTNL), Telecommunications Consultants India Limited (TCIL), Tata Communications Limited (TCL) and Nepal Ventures Private Limited (NVPL) have a participation of 26.68, 26.66, 26.66 and 20 percentage respectively.

UTL Nepal that was formed with the whole ownership of Nepalese for the participation in the joint venture of UTL set its objectives to develop and provide telecom and other value added services to the citizens. By setting forth in its objectives, UTL Nepal has been able to gain the coverage in 13 zones of our country. It has provided its services in 42 out of 75 districts of Nepal. It has more than 5 lakh customers in Nepal.

UTL Nepal provides different telecommunication services. These include voice service, SMS (Short message Service), voice SMS, missed call alert, CRBT (Caller Ring Back Tone), Internet through USIM, Internet through lease Lines, PCOs (Public Call Offices) and discounts, additional voice facilities and conference bridges.

Through the voice services, you can make local calls that include making calls to PSTN (Public Switched Telephone Network) and fixed phones and making calls to mobile phones, making STD (Subscriber Trunk Dialling) and ISD (International Subscriber’s Dialling). Through SMS services, you can send SMS and it takes only 50 paisa for a SMS between UTL to UTL.

UTL also received the unified license for the operation of GSM in whole country. UTL is the latest GSM operator with the unified license for basic telephony along with the previous operators Nepal Telecom, NCell Axiata and Smart Tel. You can also get internet services through USIM. And, for the USIM data subscriber, there are four different types of data available. These are unlimited 24 hour surfing for 1 month, unlimited 24 hour surfing for 1 year, unlimited night surfing (8 pm to 8 am) for 1 month and unlimited night surfing for 1 year.

UTL – ISP in Nepal

UTL came into the competition of ISP in Nepalese market for the first time in October, 2008. Optical fibre or wireless is used to access the internet. PCO services are provided around the Kathmandu valley by authorized UTL PCO outlets. It also provides additional voice facilities which are Caller Line Identification (Caller ID), Do not Disturb (DND), Mobile Access Hunting (MAH), Only Service, Flxrest service (free locking), SPINA service, call waiting, SPINI service< Call forwarding (busy, default, no answer and unconditional) and conference call (6 party).

UTL Bill payment

You can view your postpaid monthly bill in the website after you have registered. Payments can be done either by visiting the bank branches nearby or through internet as well. For payment through voucher, you can visit Everest bank or Nepal SBI bank. You can pay through internet as well. However, currently online e-payment is available only from the Everest Bank.

United Telecom Limited (UTL) is another Telecommunication Service Providers in Nepal. Previously, it was one of the top service provider of Nepal but with other service providers emerging, UTL now stands at fourth position with just five lakh twenty seven thousand customers.

It is an association of four companies who came together in a joint venture to give various telecom services. Out of four companies, one company is national (Nepalese) company and remaining three are foreign (Indian) companies.

UTL services are provides in 13 zones of the country today covering most of the district. But the number of subscriber is very less compared to other service providers.

The company has gone through a lot of loss these days and now its trying its best to re enter the market.

This was the most preferred telecom operator after NTC but these days its loosing its market. The company is planning to revive itself through gaining investments form business groups.

Previously, the most shares were owned by Indian companies and only 20 percent was owned by MR Upendra Mahato.

They are planning to do more investment and bring the once very popular brand back in the market. While the most new Operator, Smart Cell is progressing everyday, one of the oldest operator UTL is loosing its market gradually.
