What is CMAT in Nepal

CMAT is a mandatory exam that must be taken to enroll in BBA, BBM, BHM, BIM, BTTM, or any management-related subjects. The minimum criteria for admission are to score at least 40 marks out of 100 in the CMAT examination. The CMAT exam is important for getting enrolled in Tribhuvan University-affiliated management colleges.

To prepare for CMAT, one can join CMAT preparation classes. There are many CMAT classes around the Kathmandu valley. Some colleges even provide preparation books as a guide. These books help students approach the CMAT examination.

Candidates can even find other guides, including study material, model papers, and previous papers. Some preparation classes in Nepal are:

CMAT entrance Exam and Interview

Every applicant who wants to join BBA/BIM/BHM/BTTM should appear in CMAT. Tribhuvan University conducts CMAT annually for students who have recently appeared in 10+2 and A-level board exams. Applicants having a GPA 1.8 in grades 11 and 12 or a minimum score of second division marks in 10+2, PCL, or equivalent in any discipline are eligible to apply for CMAT.


Applicants must get a minimum score of 40 out of 100 in order to pass the CMAT test. The interview is conducted for the short-listed applicant for the selection of applicant in the respective college where the form has been filled. Applicant can apply to other colleges if he/ she doesn’t want to enroll in the same college.

CMAT Exam Question Format

Applicants appearing in CMAT should understand the standard testing pattern to score better on the test. The test must be completed in 90 minutes and consists of 100 objective questions with four sections containing 25 questions in each.

  • General awareness

CMAT question type – Verbal ability

This test consists of topics like; synonyms, antonyms, prepositions, sentences, passages, comprehension passages and questions, idioms, and phrases.

CMAT question type – Quantitative Ability

This section includes the mathematical aptitude of the applicant. The topic under this test is sets and number systems, statistics, integers, probability, indices, functions and graphs, permutation and combination, matrices, and many more.

CMAT question type – Logical reasoning

This ability checks the thinking ability of applicants through topics. The topics are series tests, coding, decoding, ranking, and blood relation. Similarly, it also includes odd man out, Venn-diagram, problem figures, and thematic tests. The other inclusion is missing the number test, direction test, and a similar relationship.

CMAT question type – General Awareness

This section asses the intelligence level of students through topics like politics, mythology, history of Nepal, word history, geography and population, science and technology, sports, book and authors, famous quotes, and more.
