Why is Nepali flag so unique ?
Out of many things that makes Nepal so unique,the National flag is one of the listing. It is the only flag in the world that doesn’t have a quadrilateral shape instead is composed of two triangles. It is a combination of two triangles also known as pennants. It is the most unique flag in the world not only in terms of its appearance but also for the significance it holds and meaning it carries.
The history of Nepali flag
The Nepali flag was previously introduced back in the Rana Regime.The two pennants represented the two branches of the Rana Regime. The moon previously represented the Royal families who ruled the country for years and were king at that time as well. The sun represented the sharp Ranas who were prime minister at that time but were very powerful. Initially though the flag represented rivalry the triangles were later joined to show harmony. The triangles were joined by the then king Prithivi Narayan Shah after the unification of Nepal.The flag was adopted as National flag back in December 1962 after establishment of new constitutional Government. The design is still the same old design with the sun and the moon.
Not just its shape but the color combination is also something that sets the flag apart.Nepali flag has three colors. The border being of blue color, the central filling is of crimson red and the sun and moon are white in color. The crimson color is also the national color of Nepal. The blue color symbolizes peace. Its crimson red is the National color of the country, while the blue border is the color of peace.
Significance of the flag
Since the flag was adopted after unification of all the small states by King Prithivi Narayan Shah. It itself marks a glorious event.The colors, the shape ,the sun and the moon, all of them carry a special meaning.
The crimson red colour indicates bravery of Nepali people that they have been showing since ages. The blue border colour represents peace and harmony among Nepali people. It is believed that the triangular shape represents the Himalayas. But there are more intrepretation to this as well, the triangular shape represents the traditional architecture of Nepal, the pagoda style.
The sun and moon themselves carry a special meaning. The presence of sun and moon indicates the existence of Nepal till the heavenly bodies remain in the sky. The moon represents the calm and soft nature of Nepali people. And the sun represents the fierceness of the sane innocent Nepali People. Nepali people are calm and polite as well but they can be equally fierce when needed. Furthermore the moon also represents the cold weather in the Himalayas. The sun represents the heat in the Terai region. It beautifully explains the diversity in Nepal. Nepali flag simply represents Nepal in every possible way.It is definitely something Nepali should be proud of.Nepali flag is a small representation of the country itself and we couldn’t be more proud of our National flag.
