Compound Interest Formula with Example

The formula for compound interest is:
A = P (1 + r/n)^(nt)

  • A = Final amount
  • P = Initial deposit
  • r = Annual interest rate (decimal)
  • n = Times interest compounds per year
  • t = Number of years

Example:

If you deposit NPR 10,000 at 8% interest compounded yearly for 5 years:
A = 10,000 (1 + 0.08/1)^(1×5) = NPR 14,693

Difference Between Simple & Compound Interest

  • Simple Interest = Only earns interest on the initial amount.
  • Compound Interest = Earns interest on interest, growing faster.
