How to Prepare SEE Examination
Previously termed as SLC, the Examination of 10th grade is now called Secondary Education Examination, abbreviated SEE. SEE is the final examination in the secondary school system in Nepal. After completion of SEE, you can now officially enter a higher secondary schooling system. National Examination Board (NEB ) upgraded SLC to SEE and introduced the grading system. SEE always takes place in March every year, and thousands of students take this examination. This year also, students, schools, and parents are working very hard for the SEE happening in march 2023.
Every student must take the SEE examination in order to complete the Secondary schooling system. SEE is a huge thing in Nepali society. More than students, it is the parent who feels more pressurized during this exam. Schools also make this exam a very big deal for students. They make their students study almost 12 hours in school, and then they almost kill them with tons of assignments. With this behaviour, students also somewhere believe that it is very important to get good marks in SEE.
SEE in past
We used to hear many unfortunate cases of suicide in the past. Students killed themselves when they didn’t get the expected results. But now, with the introduction of grading or the CGPA system, it has reduced suicides a bit. No matter how many changes are made, students still feel the same pressure while studying for SEE. I present to you little tips on how you can study fruitfully and achieve the best results.
Practice old exam question papers
This is no new thing for SEE students; I distinctly remember my teachers making me solve all the old question papers. SEE students get old question papers as class assignments, home assignments, and even vacation assignments. You may be angry with your teachers for making you do all the past papers but believe this really helps. This will give you an actual idea of how the paper will be and how to manage time for that. Don’t skip any past questions because a repeat of a question is very common in SEE. Also, practice time management skills. Separate time for each section and solve the questions accordingly.
Organize study place
Well, it is no new thing that the mind works best in an organized environment. Make sure you have good space in your room to spread your books, notes, and all the necessary supplies. Keep everything in place while you sit to study. This will prevent distraction. If I can’t find my pencil while I am studying I just get distracted and end up scrolling news feed. So please don’t do this.
Keep everything in place and study without getting distracted. Also, you need good lighting and a comfortable chair. Don’t go for a too comfortable chair as you will end up sleeping. For many friends, good music works really well. You can even go for soothing music to get all your focus on your studies. So the bottom line is that an organized study place really helps, but still it is about your choices. I have many friends who study in the most cluttered environment.
Use charts and diagrams.
Our teachers teach us with the help of flowcharts for a reason. You remember flowcharts much more easily than written documents. This especially works with formulas or any procedures. Visual aids are really helpful, saying from my own experience. Make diagrams while studying. This will add freshness and also break the monotony. You can even use bright colours to highlight certain things. This is a really easy but useful tip for all the students. So for our SEE students as well, don’t tire your mind instead, study smart.
Engage with others
Studying with a friend helps really lot while preparing for the exam. Recite or explain your answers to others and this will help you remember everything. You can even teach your friend or help him with a numerical that you just learned. This way, you will never forget what you have learned. When you explain your answer this will give a clear idea of what you have studied so far.
Take breaks in between your study.
While you may think studying for hours will be helpful, this can actually tire you. Taking breaks between your studies is very important. This will break the monotony and freshen up your mind. After each break, you will be fresh and can understand things easily.
Take a break for lunch, water breaks or even get out for some time. Maybe just play with your pet and get back to work afterward.
Develop a study routine that best works for you and stick to that routine. Include all the breaks in your routine. Regular breaks can actually enhance your productivity but don’t be carried away. Stay focused and stick to your routine.
Group study with friends
Group study with friends will help you overcome each other’s weaknesses. You can learn from your friends and teach your friends. You can even get answers to questions you don’t know, solve some difficult problems. If executed properly, group study can be really meaningful, just make sure to not turn it into gossip time or game time. Stay focused on one topic and start another topic gradually.
Eat good food
You may have felt that as well. Studying really drains your energy, and you need good food while you are studying. Don’t go for heavy meals as you will feel lazy. Eat light but nutritious meals in between your study. As we know mind doesn’t work with an empty stomach, so keep your tummy full. Eat a good meal before you start studying and during the breaks as well. And also during the exam days also, don’t forget to have good food. You will need good food to overcome all the nervousness and fear. Avoid sugar during exam days, as it drains your energy very soon.
Stay calm on your exam day.
If you get nervous on your exam day, then all your hard work will just be a waste. To properly plan your exam day and stay calm. Don’t forget your supplies, and yes, keep them organized. I remember my SLC days when I forgot the calculator in my science examination. I had to borrow it from my bench mate, and it was really hard to share a calculator, So please don’t repeat my mistake. Keep everything ready in advance a day before your exam. Don’t wait for the exam day. And very important, keep your entrance card safe. Reach the exam center at least half an hour early.
